text 30 Apr 3 notes Love…

I talk a lot about love, because I believe in Love with all of my heart.  But don’t mistake my belief for expertise.  I am not perfect at loving everyone all the time.  In fact, I probably fail more often than not.  As the C.S. Lewis quote Kevin posted in the last entry states, true love is hard, gut-wrenching work, and no matter how hard I might try, I cannot perfect it.  Sometimes I feel wronged and get angry.  Sometimes love is too heavy a load for me to shoulder, and I let it fall.  But don’t let my fumbling reflect poorly on my beliefs.  Love is not the problem; I am.

I talk a lot about community, but sometimes I’m difficult to live with.  We all are.  That doesn’t mean we don’t need each other.  On the contrary, it means we need each other all the more.  We need to offer each other strength, and we need to hold each other accountable.  Again, Love is not the problem; I am.

These are the lyrics to a new song we’ve been playing recently.  They deal with this subject, so I’m gonna’ post ‘em.

“Love is a candle burning despite what may come.
Even besieged by strong winds or rain, it must burn,
For everyone, for everyone, for everyone’s in need of love.

Take this cup from me.
I’m bad company.

Love is a mountain everyone scales at some time,
And I slide nine steps back every ten that I climb.
But we must go on, we must go on, for they will know us by our love.

Take this cup from me.
I’m bad company.
Pour Your love through me
For all this world to see.”

Peace be with you, friends.

Love,
Chris
